Ground Operations Safety Specialist

Brief Summary:
Acts as an SMS specialist under Safety & Risk Manager to fully manage and implement ground operations & handling SMS expectations, as defined in the SMS manual and coordinates with staff to assure safe operations. 

Scope:
Helicopter operations oversight for:

  • Ground support equipment oversight

  • Conducting ERP drills, and monitoring emergency response

  • Conduct field work such as remote airfield ground ops & handling inspections, remote helipad inspections, offshore helideck inspections, fueling system inspections, etc

  • Compliance with all applicable Aviation regulatory authorities such as GACA, AIB and ICAO

  • Ensure compliance with Company policies and procedures 

  • Maintain Company SMS certification with International requirements 

  • Ensure, coordinate, promote, track, and manage Company Safety Portal 

  • Promote safety through such activities as meetings, presentations, and safety documents

  • Assist the Safety Manager through identification and reduction of hazards within ground operations

  • Perform outstation Safety Audits of Ground Operations throughout our aviation network and produce Audit reports for each Safety Audit

  • Carry out Safety Investigations as directed by the Safety Manager

  • Carry out post incident safety inspections when required in order to verify corrective and preventative measures that are in place. 

  • Process and monitor all Safety Reports, with emphasis on Ground/Cargo/Handling Operations and provide feedback and report back with recommendations when applicable. 

  • Monitor the progress of safety investigations and ensure that corrective actions are taken in a timely manner, following up with the area owner as necessary. 

  • Assist the Safety Manager in carrying out analyses and studies of incidents trends. 

  • Prepare Trend Reports on safety issues identified through Safety Reports. 

  • Supply the necessary data for Safety Action Group meetings. 

  • Collect data and support Airport Services and Cargo department in preparation SPI and SPT, as per GACA requirements and SMS expectations. 

  • Ensure Safety promotion, training compliance and awareness within employees.

  • Deputies Safety Manager for Ground Operations during his/her absence. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Safety Manager for Ground Ops.

COMPANY: Contact with the Safety & Risk Manager and Safety director as defined in the SMS manual.  Additionally, contact will also include the Company CEO, Company Vice Presidents, Company Directors, Chief Pilots, Airplane Safety Pilot, Training Captains, Maintenance & Repair Station personnel, and ground personnel on a regular basis. 

LOCAL & INTERNATIONAL: Contact with regulatory authorities such as GACA, FAA, NTSB, ICAO, and all world-wide authorities under which our international aircraft fly into, through, or over. Contact international aviation associations such as the National Business Aircraft Association (NBAA), Helicopter Association International (HAI), Gulf Flight Safety Council (GFSC), International Business Aviation Council (IBAC), International Helicopter Safety Team (IHST) and more. Contact with world-wide aviation service provider companies for safety audit, and safety benchmarking. 

Minimum Requirements:


Education: Bachelors Degree in Science or Certification in a  global aviation safety program

Discipline: Aviation / Safety

Experience: 10 Years in the Aviation Industry in ground handling operations.

Specific Experience: 5 years in Aviation safety role managing and implementing aviation SMS program.
