Position Overview:
Develops, maintains, and monitors the Maintenance Safety Program in alignment with GACAR Part 5, Part 145, and ICAO SMS standards. Coordinates closely with the Maintenance, Engineering, and Ground Support departments to identify safety risks, investigate maintenance-related incidents, and drive safety improvements. Assists in risk assessment processes and ensures that organisational changes impacting maintenance operations are properly evaluated for safety impact prior to implementation.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees maintenance safety initiatives, including hazard identification, risk management, safety assurance, and promotion activities. Ensures compliance with regulatory and organizational SMS and maintenance safety standards
- Conducts detailed investigations into maintenance incidents, ground handling events, and technical defects. Prepares investigation reports and recommends corrective/preventive measures.
- Facilitates regular Maintenance Safety Review Board (MSRB) meetings, monitors maintenance safety performance indicators (SPIs), and ensures documentation and tracking of safety issues to closure.
- Develops and delivers maintenance-specific safety briefings, safety alerts, and targeted awareness campaigns to promote safety culture among maintenance and ground operations personnel.
- Monitors and analyzes maintenance error reports (e.g., MEDA reports, maintenance findings) to detect trends and recommend preventive actions.
- Supports risk assessments for new maintenance procedures, tooling, and facility changes to ensure safe operational practices
- Conducts audits and inspections focused on maintenance safety, ensuring compliance with GACA regulations, ICAO standards, and internal policies.
- Analyses technical reports to identify safety gaps and recommends continuous improvement initiatives for maintenance processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in aviation maintenance or a related field or SMS certification.
- Five years or more of experience in aviation maintenance safety, including knowledge of FAA and/or GACA regulations and safety management systems.
- Strong knowledge of GACAR Part 5, Part 145, ICAO Annex 19, and SMS principles
- Experience conducting maintenance safety investigations, risk assessments, and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with MEDA (Maintenance Error Decision Aid) and other maintenance investigation methodologies preferred.
- Familiarity with aviation maintenance procedures and technologies.
